Pastoral Counseling
Many of us were already stressed and anxious. Others were struggling with grief or fear. Now we have added the unique troubles of 2020 (especially the global Covid pandemic and social unrest). And we are seeing greater incidents of suicide ("Overall, the suicide rate across the country has increased in the last two decades -- to approximately 12 deaths per 100,000 people in the general population in 2018, from just over 10 per 100,000 in 2000, the [CDC] said."). The need is great. We want to help how we can.
What is your philosophy of Counseling?
North Hills & Rev. Adam Tisdale practices Christ-Centered, Biblical/Pastoral Counseling for struggling and hurting Christians, as well as those looking for someone to provide encouragement and perspective.
What do you mean by Biblical and Pastoral Counseling?
With a desire to always learn from modern strategies and insights about how to counsel, we believe the Word of God helps us understand this world he has placed us in, ourselves as persons created in the image of God, and how to live in this world. We also believe there is a place for professional/licensed counseling and medication. In fact, we are committed to referring individuals when we do not feel qualified to provide what an individual, couple, or family may need.
What do you mean by Christ-Centered?
Jesus says he came so we would have life and that it would be abundant life (John 10:10). We believe that as we focus on the life, teaching, death, resurrection, and present ministry of Jesus, we grow in our understanding of how to live in this world he has created and in which he now ministers.
Must I be a professing Christian to receive Counseling?
No. Anyone is welcome to make use of this service. While we are committed to Christ and the message of the Gospel, we believe that we can provide empathy, insight, and direction for anyone struggling with anxiety, stress, and a whole host of emotions and circumstances.
What is your fee?
This is a free service as an outreach to our community. It is contingent upon our availability, as a result.
What ages do you counsel?
We counsel teens and all ages of adults.
What issues do you provide counseling for?
We provide counseling for a variety of issues including anxiety, fear, grief, anger, vocational struggles, and crises of faith. We also provide premarital counseling and marriage counseling.
Where will counseling take place?
During the openings during the day, counseling can take place online (utilizing Zoom) or at the North Hills Church Office. All evening sessions will be online.
Will this counseling be kept confidential?
Yes. There are a few exceptions to this: circumstances in which we fear for the life or safety of the counselee; admission or suspicion of abuse of any kind; or circumstances where permission has been granted to speak with another counselor or healthcare professional.
What experience does Rev. Tisdale have?
Pastor Adam, as most call him, has nearly twenty-five years of vocational ministry experience. This is in addition to his training at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, where he earned a Masters of Divinity. He is ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America and remains accountable to the denomination through a local group of pastors & lay-leaders (Providence Presbytery). Finally, but of significant importance, are Pastor Adam's own experiences with suffering and affliction. You can read his bio here.
